"I never imagined that I would be searching for a plastic surgeon at such a young age. I was 30-years old, pregnant with my second child, and battling stage 3 breast cancer. As I mentioned to you earlier, I dreamed for years that someday I would lose weight, get in shape, and have a breast reduction and lift—in that order. Sometimes in life, things are thrown at us that we don't expect. In October of 2007, I was thrown those four words, "you have breast cancer".  I was not expecting that....ever, and as with every diagnosis, there is the search for the right treatment, along with the right specialists to deliver that treatment. After much thought and prayer, I decided on a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. That meant, a surgeon, plastic surgeon, and oncologist.

Fortunately for me, I had friends who could advise me on specialists they had used, or knew of their reputation. My big question was for the plastic surgeon, as he would be the one that had the responsibility of reconstructing what was once normal breast, now removed, into breasts that looked normal. Whether it is for reconstruction, or something that is cosmetic, you definitely want the best considering it is your body that will bare the beauty or failure of the procedure. Once again, I was thrown those words.... Dr. Rob Schmid, "he is the best".

He worked me into his already full schedule, and made sure he made time with the surgeon. As a result, he immediately put ex-panders under my muscles and began the process of muscle stretching before the final implants were placed. His expertise, compassion, and sense of humor made each visit a pleasant experience. His staff could not be more informed, concerned, kind, and patient. Having gone into the office multiple times over several months, this office had become my family.

I am now nearly four years from my first encounter with Dr. Schmid and his staff, and my respect and admiration for each of them only grows. I have normal looking breasts including nipples and all. I can't imagine having used anyone but him and for those women friends who have heard those words I heard, after taking a peek at what he did for me, there was no further searching... they were sold on his work;  and I keep hearing those four words from so many others who are enjoying his skills and that special gift he possesses....."he is the best".
